How to Land Your First UGC Deal With Zero Followers
You don't need followers. You need content that sells.
Here is the part nobody tells aspiring creators: the people brands pay for user-generated content are usually not the people with big audiences. UGC is a content job, not a popularity contest. You get paid to make a video that converts, and the brand runs it as an ad.
We can prove it with our own ledger. On MediaMaxxing, creators have earned over $1M all-time, with roughly $1.35M approved and over $1.05M already cashed out. More than 2,800 creators have been paid, and almost none of them started with a following. One creator, Steven, earned $81,775 in his first three months across 15 campaigns. Another, brayspencer, pulled $42,197 from just six campaigns. That is what "zero followers" actually looks like when the content is good.
Why brands pay strangers to make videos
Consumers stopped trusting polished studio ads. 92% of consumers trust user-generated content more than traditional advertising (Nielsen), and 79% say UGC heavily influences their purchasing decisions. That trust shows up in performance: UGC-based ads earn 4x higher click-through rates than the average ad (Bazaarvoice), and one 2025 benchmark found UGC posts converted at a 10.38x higher rate than non-UGC posts (Emplifi).
So brands need a constant supply of fresh, real-looking video. They do not care if your personal account has 12 followers or 12,000. They care that the clip looks native, hooks in two seconds, and makes someone buy. That is the whole opening for a beginner.
What UGC actually pays right now
Real marketplace data, not vibes. The 2025 average price a brand pays for a single UGC video is about $198 per deliverable (Collabstr). Rate guides put the working range at $150 to $300 per video, with beginners around $100 and experienced creators charging $500 or more (Influee).
| Format | Typical pay | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Single UGC video (avg) | ~$198 | Collabstr 2025 |
| Beginner UGC video | ~$100 | Influee 2025 |
| Experienced UGC video | $500+ | Influee 2025 |
| Pay-per-view / per approved post | No cap | MediaMaxxing ledger |
That last row is the one to pay attention to. A flat $198 is fine, but it caps your upside. On a pay-per-view model, one video that pops can be worth thousands. Our best single month by one creator was $42,820, and ericaaaa earned $34,307 in two months. Same skill, very different ceiling.
Step 1: Build a portfolio that does the selling for you
You cannot pitch nothing. Before you message a single brand, make 5 to 8 spec videos for real products you already own. Pick a lane like skincare, supplements, home gadgets, or fitness, and stay in it. Generalists get ignored.
- Keep each video 15 to 30 seconds: hook, problem, product, payoff.
- Study the brand's current ads first so your style matches what already works for them.
- Edit in CapCut. Clean captions, a trending sound, fast cuts, a strong first frame.
- Shoot the same product three ways (talking head, demo, "get ready with me") so a brand sees range.
Put these on a simple page or a dedicated content account. This is your resume. Nobody is checking your follower count on it.
Step 2: Pick your path to the first paid deal
There are two real routes, and the smart move is to run both.
Path A: Pitch DTC brands directly
Skip the household names at first. Go after direct-to-consumer brands with smaller followings. They burn through ad creative and rarely have an in-house team to make it. Find them on TikTok Shop, in your own "for you" page ads, and on Shopify-built stores. Brand deals still make up 49% of creator revenue in 2025 (Influencer Marketing Hub), so this pipeline is real money, it is just slow and one-at-a-time.
Path B: Get paid per view on a platform
The faster route for someone with no contacts is a platform that hands you the briefs and pays automatically. That is exactly what we built MediaMaxxing for. You pick a campaign, use a proven viral template from the dashboard, post, and get paid per view or per approved submission. No follower minimum, no invoicing, no chasing payment. Payouts run through Stripe worldwide.
The reason this matters for beginners is volume and speed. Our creator payouts are growing roughly 3x month over month: $158K in April, $236K in May, and $797K in June. That is more brand budget flowing to more first-timers every single month. Tibbz made $1,100 in his first month. AxlCruz made $1,000 in 30 days at age 14. Enel earned $18,000 in a single month. None of them needed an audience to start.
Step 3: The pitch that actually gets replies
If you are going the direct route, keep it short and specific. Long pitches get ignored.
- Subject: "UGC video for [Product], ready to film this week."
- Line 1: One specific compliment about their existing ad or product.
- Line 2: Your portfolio link plus two clips that match their aesthetic.
- Line 3: Your rate. Start near $100 to $150 a video and raise it after five deals.
- Follow up once after three days. One nudge, then move on.
Lead with the work. "I'm a creator, please hire me" gets deleted. "Here's a video of your product that I already made" gets a reply.
Mistakes that kill beginner deals
- Pricing yourself out of practice. Your first few deals buy you reps and testimonials, not rent. With over 50% of creators earning under $15,000 a year (Influencer Marketing Hub), the ones who win are the ones who keep shipping volume early.
- Going generic. Niche down to one product category and own it.
- Faking a following. Pointless here. The content is the product.
- Delivering raw and praying. Match the brief, hit the hook, and read the campaign rules before you post.
Your first $100 is closer than you think
Look at our earning tiers: 661 creators have earned $100+, 178 have crossed $1K, 28 are past $10K, and 2 have earned over $50K. Every one of them was at zero once. The difference between the people on that ledger and the people still "thinking about it" is that they posted a first video.
Build your 5 spec clips this week. Pitch a few small brands, and at the same time grab a real campaign with a paid template waiting for you. Join MediaMaxxing as a creator, post your first submission, and get paid per view, no followers required. Brands looking for this content can start on the brands page, and you can keep leveling up with the rest of the MediaMaxxing blog.
